RCA continued its physician recruitment and engagement efforts throughout the summer, connecting with current and future retina specialists at leading industry events across the country. From sharing clinical expertise and research insights to building relationships with fellows, residents, and colleagues, RCA physicians and practices were well represented across the retina community.
Mass Eye and Ear 16th Annual Vitrectomy Course | Boston, MA | July 10–11
RCA was proud to be a Gold Sponsor at the 16th Mass Eye and Ear Annual Vitrectomy Course, dedicated to welcoming 1st year fellows in a two-day educational program featuring immersive learning opportunities, hands-on wet and dry labs, surgical simulation, 3D video sessions, case discussions and expert-led lectures. Dr. Christian Leal, associate with Austin Retina, took to the podium and spoke from the heart about his family’s support during his path to retina, why he chose an RCA affiliated practice, and how the practice infrastructure and culture enables him to take the very best care of his patients from all walks of life and “go the extra mile”.

RCA left its mark on the stunning city of Montreal this July hosting two evening receptions during ASRS. Over 25 retina fellows enjoyed breathtaking late-night views of Old Montreal at the rooftop venue, Terrasse Place D’Armes, while over 100 RCA physicians, spouses, and colleagues sampled delicious local Montreal fare and beverages in the sun-drenched French Bistro, Brasserie 701, the next evening.
Women in Ophthalmology Summer Symposium | Monterey, CA | August 20-23
RCA was also proud to return to Women in Ophthalmology’s Summer Symposium this August as a sponsor and exhibitor. This curated meeting for women consistently offers high-quality content in all subjects of ophthalmology and featured speakers and specialized educational content in a collegial atmosphere designed specifically for women. RCA’s own Dr. Maryam Ghiassi of Retinal Consultants Medical Group participated in a dynamic panel discussion focusing on demystifying clinical trials and creating a clearer path for more women in ophthalmology to become involved in clinical research.
Chicago AVTT Symposium | Chicago, IL | August 28-29
RCA was again onsite for the 27th annual Advanced Vitreoretinal Techniques and Technology (AVTT) Symposium in Chicago in August as a Gold Sponsor, meeting many 1st and 2nd year fellows and several residents that provided a comprehensive summary of the latest advances and best practices in the field of retina from physician leaders across the United States. Dr. George Skopis, associate with Retina Group of Florida, connected with the audience of residents and fellows having walked in their shoes as a surgical fellow just three years prior in Chicago, and his sincere message about the support and autonomy he has felt in growing his practice, participating in clinical trials, and having the tools to provide the highest level of care to his patients resonated with the crowd.
